Oh, I'm really glad Kristen! You can try doing fairly neutral looks and then adding a pop with really bright or sparkly eyeliner, too.

Pretty much it's all things in moderation. If you go OTT on one thing, tone down something else. You can rock bright lipstick with neutral eyes, bright eyes with neutral lips, crazy eyeliner with simple shadow, etc etc. But absolutely, just keep pushing your luck until someone complains, aha.

Thank you! That actually really did help- and luckily one of the few brushes I own is a MAC 217! I've already started playing around with some neutrals and upgraded to shimmery ones now- so far no negative comments at the workplace so I think I'll keep working up on the intensity and expanding my colors until the boss says no!

I'm probably not the best person to ask about what's appropriate for work given that I'd wear lime green eyeshadow to work, but I can give you some tips.

Yes, matte shades might be considered more suitable, but I think in this day and age there's nothing wrong with a little shimmer. If I were you I'd go for more neutral shades with a shimmery finish or try out bolder mattes - I'd keep the bold colours/finishes low on the lid, i.e. on the eyelid themselves and not carry them above the crease, and make sure you've got a non-shimmery highlight colour to blend them out with.

Anyone can pull off insanely bright if they blend it out, so having a clean extra stiff dome brush (like the MAC 217) on hand to blend colours out with is really handy. Try something like MAC's Shroom as a highlight colour, because although it has a slightly shimmery finish, it's barely noticeable.

If your boss is a guy, I wouldn't worry too much. Honestly, I don't think he'd notice much beyond "Hey your eyes look nice" - just don't go too dramatically dark or bright, and don't pile on a ton of black eyeliner, since those are mostly the giveaways.

Other than that, though... Try pushing your look? Get a little bolder each day and experiment! As I say, I'd be sure to keep any bold colours or really shimmery eyeshadows on the lid and then blend into the crease with something more neutral, so you've got a little pop rather than glitter all over your face.

If you never have, take a look at Urban Decay's eyeshadows and their palettes, because seriously, their shimmer eyeshadows have the most... amazingly beautiful formula, they're so creamy and shiny and *gorgeous* you won't be able to resist using them.

I hope that helps? Aha, like I said - not an expert on what's appropriate! Take care on the eyeshadow placement though and start out slow and I think you'll be fine.

Axs - I pretty much feel the same way about them. I'm not scared to wear shimmer (although I don't like massive glitter chunks) and they're easier to blend, so I tend to go for shimmer, but I realllyyyy like these colours.

Panurple is the first one I saw and went "love it", but it felt a bit weird to swatch so I'd hold off on grabbing it until I try it in a look on its own and test it out.

Ella, absolutely. I get that a lot, and I think it's because with mattes they add a lot of stuff in to make them chalkier, then they don't swatch well...

Mattes can be tricky to work with, granted, but even with my limited set up here (ahhh I'm doing all my makeup in a compact mirror) I managed OK. With practice I don't think anyone would have that much trouble using these, and I can't fault BFTE on pigmentation.

In terms of the repackaging I'm really chuffed with the direction they're going in, Grey. It's no different from, say, Aromaleigh now (and I know how you feel about them :p ) considering they've discontinued most and labeled the rest.

Although Aromaleigh are getting rid of all of theirs entirely, but I don't think it'll be long before that happens, truthfully. I like BFTE's formula - I sent you that sample of Mint by them, remember? Try it out and see what you think.

Zoe, in my opinion the best yellow IN THE WORLD is MAC Going Bananas, but sadly it's limited edition and was with the C-Shock collection so it's damn hard to find.

It has a little shimmer in it, too. In terms of a matte yellow, I'm really digging this one, although I like to use yellows to brighten up looks over other colours, so I'm gonna have to try it in a look to see how pigmented it goes on over other shadows.

Honestly I think BFTE's mattes are easier to use than some matte MAC pigments, which is saying quite a lot. Mint in particular, that favourite mint green of mine, is wonderful. Of all of these I noticed Panurple was perhaps a bit chalkier than the others, but I've yet to try using it in a look so I'm reserving judgement on that one. I was really pleased with the ones I used in this, though - and Always a Bridesmaid (don't you love the names?) and Black Cherry are another two which blended easily.

Hi, I've been following your blog for about a month, and this is my first comment!

I'm 22 and I'm just now starting to wear more makeup than just tinted moisturizer, eyeliner, mascara and lipgloss so I'm kind of weary about how much makeup is appropriate for work, weekend, day/night, etc.

I'm a dental assistant in the US which qualifies me as a dental nurse in the UK... would mattes be better for work, or are shimmery eyeshadows OK? I love this look, and fortunately I work for a dentist that doesn't limit us to subdued makeup (like most dentists here do), so I want to start exploring without going too over the top!

Sorry, I think that was one big run-on question! I'm just trying to make sense of all these different eyeshadow finishes!
