Fyrinnae - Still Alive!

There's been a lot of panic that Fyrinnae are closed for good. I just got confirmation that this isn't true, the store isn't closing for good and it will be back eventually.
[ETA: They'll be back in a matter of days, as opposed to months.]
I don't know when and I hope that we can all get ahold of ourselves, be patient and not spam them with requests or demands for more information.

I do not know the precise circumstances surrounding the temporary closure, but I have an idea and I'm absolutely appalled at some people I've seen complaining about what a poor way to "thank your loyal customers" this is. Fyrinnae deserve the benefit of the doubt. They fucking earned it. They aren't Glittersniffer, or Lime Crime, or whatever. They haven't stolen your money or lied or killed your bloody dog. Take a second to remember these are human beings, real people making your sparkly stuff, with real lives and shit going on. Instead of getting overwhelmed and ripping people off they're closing up to deal with everything and they'll be back when they can.

Fyrinnae have "thanked their loyal customers" by always being honest, providing fantastic products at reasonable prices and always doing their best to make sure your orders got to you safely and correctly. Sometimes indie business can make us feel important, if we think they need our custom to get by, but let's remember that we aren't owed a detailed explanation of their life or them always being on-hand when we want. We aren't entitled to more than we've already been given. Remember these are real people, and that their well-being is more important than us being able to buy things.

I should clarify that the above scolding is from me alone, and that Fyrinnae had absolutely no part in it or knowledge of it. It's been pissing me off for a while.

All that said, we can now all be grateful that we don't have to ration our Pixie Epoxy.

Excellent news!! I'll wait patiently for my Velvet Gel Silica Primer.

You make an excellent point here. Too often we've seen indie businesses excoriated for using personal excuses for delays. The folks at Fyrinnae are entitled to lives and privacy and enacted that right in closing down. While I wish the initial messages hadn't been so cryptic I do think it speaks to how much this company means to people that there was an internet watch party trying to figure out what was going on.

They did the right thing and I think that is being overlooked. They could not, for whatever reason, meet demand so they closed. In a time when indie is as bruised and battered as it is I believe a business who thinks enough about their customers not to let them down by not being able to deliver should be applauded.

TL;DR Fyrinnae are one of the good ones and I hope they come back soon.

I think this might be my first comment to your blog. *SQUEEEEE!*
At any rate, I'm in complete agreement. Yes, I would have preferred more of a statement but on the other hand, they're human beings and they don't owe me an explanation. I'm thoroughly pleased that they aren't shutting down forever as I was wondering how I would survive without PE.
I would rather have things like this and still look forward to unique and exceptional products than have a company that might be better on the CS side but have only mediocre products and conduct themselves like asses otherwise.
I will wait patiently and save up my pennies for their grand re-opening. Best of luck to you, Fyrinnae!

Were people really saying those things? They often close up shop for short periods when things become overwhelming though. It's just smart if your a small company, that way people won't be trying to frantically send orders when your in the weeds.

I never thought they closed for good, and I posted about it on my blog (which I just overhauled haha). I know they have issues with their site often.

AND OMG I MISSED YOU ANA!!!

You've made my day! I'm so happy to hear they're not closed for good. I was scared for a minute, there. Fyrinnae is truly one of a kind. Thank you for taking the time to clarify, Ana!

Well said as always. I'm very happy it's not a permanent closure and as far as I'm concerned they can take all the time they need :)

I have no emotional investment in this company since I've never ordered from them. In fact in the 30 - 40 times I've tried to access their website it's never once been working. I agree with the points that you made ... it's responsible to close up to catch up and they don't owe their lives to their customers. However, it seems that they could work at improving their communication. How hard would it be to add some dates or a simple 5 word explanation to the closed message?

Oh, my goodness, what a relief! I refrained from adding to the shitstorm when the first "closed" message came up on the site, knowing that they do close down to catch up on orders and ensure no customer has to deal with "backordered" items. I have always gotten excellent CS from them, including samples with any shadow/blush order, and well-packed items that arrive intact and beautiful. For this, I am thankful. They really are without compare and I'm glad to know they are still with us!

Yay! I'm thrilled this is only a temporary closure. I hope Fyrinnae can get some help since last I heard there was only one person working or something like that. If that's true it's no wonder he can't keep up! Honestly though if they got rid of everything in the shop they could still make a killing off PE.

I agree with everything you have written. I also endorse what Dominique wrote, 100%.

My ex bf and I used to toy with the idea with the idea of opening a restaurant. We always said that we would ban customers who were more trouble than they were worth. Ha!

Why are people such unreasonable dicks?

I'd hope that they were just having another break to catch up. I snuck in an order on Friday in the short window the sight was up and right after it confirmed, the sight was down. I know vaguely of the issues from their blog and other rumblings, and I understand that closing is the best way to deal with it. Although I waited a few months to make an order because it seemed he/they needed more time to get production back to normal, I honestly never *needed* more shadows so I wasn't going to get upset. Good on the company for being honest and not allowing it to overwhelm him.

Even though they're ALWAYS closed when I want to order I'd rather they do that than make me wait months for product.

If they closed for good IDK what I will do, 80% of my eyeshadow is Fyrinnae.

My only "complaint" about them closing, if it were true, would be they would leave a void of trustworthy indie companies out there and would be sorely missed. So glad to here the rumors of their closing is NOT true because I absolutely love their products.

Oh. Thank. Gods. I was almost crying at the thought of my huge Fyrinnae wishlist that I hadn't gotten around to purchasing yet and that I might've missed my chance for good!

I am kinda frustrated at Fyrinnae's general closed-mouth-ness - not just this incident, but in general, they've always been extremely short on information regarding closings and other business availability aspects. I do think just putting up a text-only "Fyrinnae is closed" was kinda shitty.

To be clear, I have nothing against small businesses closing when they need to to take care of life events or whatever - my main blog is on official hiatus right now, because I'm struggling with a bad depressive episode and I couldn't keep up on posting anymore, so I understand - I just wish it was done more professionally/transparently.

Fyrinnae's products being as gorgeous as they are, though, it's a forgivable-though-annoying quirk. I'm just glad to hear they're not gone forever!

I'll admit, I was one of those that was scared that they were shut down for good; but I also know that if they did, there would be good reason behind it. I'm glad that it's just temporary, and will continue to drool over all the happies that Fyrinnae offers!

It really irritates me how people on the Facebook fan page are bringing up "no one shit talked here", and are being incredibly snippy while defending themselves over something they evidently never did, nor were ever directly accused of. Ugh.

Hear, hear! Fyrinnae have always been so professional - I think that's what some people don't really understand. Most indies err on the side of over-sharing, if they're closed for personal reasons they'll tell you what they are. Fyrinnae just close, and I totally respect that they are private people. Whilst they do tend to close a lot, I appreciate that they have a HUGE workload as well as personal lives. I didn't really understand why people were thinking they'd closed "for good" - that is something I knew they'd NEVER do without lots of pre-warning and a big announcement.

Those people that say "hire more staff" would, I'm sure, LOVE to wait months for the new person/people to be trained enough to actually be able to help out x.x

@Amanda - <3

@Morgaine - ^___^

@Frances - I signed in today and discovered there's like another $50 of stuff I don't have yet... gotta fix that :x

@Grey - Rightbackatcha <3

@Dominique - Haha yes, it'd cut the TAT in half!

@Shattered - Mmhm.

@Bhevarri - :D!

@Dez - I love it when lurkers comment! Yeah, in the grand scheme of things, compared to the awesomeness of Fyrinnae, it's not a big deal. They should be up and running in a couple of days.

@Duvessa - My wishlist pretty much just says "everythinglol".

@Coloruza - YES! :D

@Arika - Yeah, sadly. :/ I agree. I can't believe people get shit for closing shop to catch up, it's far better than the alternative.

@Soo - It came as a surprise to me that anyone would bitch about them... >.>;

@Jessie - Ahahhahaha XD thank you. <3

Cait - I'm really glad they're doing OK and will still be churning out sparkly goodness.

@Sakuradesu - Me too! :D :D

@Stephtee - Yes, this, absolutely.

@Karla - It wouldn't have been hard, and they chose not to do it, and I understand why people are a little annoyed about that. I don't understand why some people are tremendously butthurt about it. After all, whether they're there or not, it's only 5 words. It's not a big deal.
Fyrinnae have addressed this on their blog so there isn't much else for me to say about it now.

@Rivercitylizzy - Pretty much in complete agreement with you.

@Angie - Hahaha, well luckily they're coming back AND NEW RELEASE FOR HALLOWEEEEEEN EEEEE <3333

@Thebirdofparadise - Hahaha yeah, I'd do it too. It'd be a pretty long list.

@Sirinda - I did as well XD I agree with you, and I hope they get back to normal soon.

@Spooki - Yeah, I might be ordering a few spares just in case when they re-open.

@Zadidoll - Absolutely! I hope they stay forever :>

@Gio - My thoughts exactly! Although luckily I already have a spare tube.

@Jadelyn - The reason they've been closed-lipped is because whenever they post anything on their blog, they get a bunch of hatemail from people complaining and accusing their posts of sounding sarcastic etc. Honestly, I don't blame them for not wanting to really explain themselves or talk to anyone =/
But yeah, even if it does annoy you, it's not a big deal compared to everything else about them.

@Ndrcvrngl - Yay! :D

@Phyrra - <333

@MrsIvan - Just a tiny rant! And me too, I need more pretty in my life.

@Anz - ARUGH. Yeah. I feel like I need to yell: IF YOU THINK MY BLOG POST IS TALKING ABOUT YOU, AND FEEL THAT IT IS UNFAIR AND INCORRECT ABOUT YOU, MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THE FUCKING POSSIBILITY THAT IT ISN'T ACTUALLY ABOUT YOU. ._.

@Julianne - :D

@Jade - Yeah, Fyrinnae definitely lean on the professional side. They give people what they paid for on time, it's a transaction, not your best friend. I think that's all they're aiming for.
Fyrinnae don't hire more staff because they can't afford to. They refuse to raise prices/shipping etc to cover that kind of thing because they think more people should be able to afford their products. =[

@Naktsmeita - Haha, omg seriously T__T

I couldn't have said it better myself. Bang-on perfect post.

I love my Fyrinnae products, but part of being a loyal indie fan is respecting the unique challenges that face small companies.

Whatever time they need to take, for whatever reason, it's never a cause to be angry. I will remain a loyal customer.
