Happiness Comes Wrapped In Corrugated Cardboard.

This morning the postman brought me a wonderful surprise Fyrinnae package, which had me skipping about happily, then swatching like mad. As they explain in this post, Fyrinnae don't send out free press samples to bloggers for review/swatches, they just sometimes send out free things to people, blog or not. This is one such occasion (I guess I count as one of Fyr's "lovelies", as the company owner puts it. Gleeee).

Fyrinnae are bringing out 7 new Arcane Magic eyeshadows which are brighter and sparklier than anything we've seen previously from them, and although they're still not released for sale quite yet, I was lucky enough to get a set of samples of them.

They're gorgeous in person, and I'm already totally in love with Electric Stardust, Futuristic Glam Rock, Pyromantic Erotica and Sequined Master in particular. Because they're all Arcane Magics, they shift colour when they're closer to artificial light (like a lamp), so I tried my best to show that in the swatches, but it's really hard to photograph - the colour shift is more dramatic in person.

  • Futuristic Glam Rock - A gorgeous bright sky blue with strong green sheen. Closer to light, the green sheen becomes violet, giving it a strong lavender highlight. Metallic & sparkly.
  • Leopard Print Galaxy - Starts a golden rosey chartreuse, yellowy-green with a peachy sheen, and shifts to a bright, clear green chartreuse near light. Metallic & sparkly.
  • Electric Stardust - A bright mint green. Starts off distinctly greeny, then shifts to a much bluer pale bright teal near light. Very metallic, less sparkly.
  • Sequined Master - Sparkly purple, sparkliest of them all. Starts off a cool purple with silvery and pink sparkles, and closer to light turns a more vibrant magenta-purple. Less metallic, but very sparkly.
  • Velvet Vampire - Starts off a very metallic rose/raspberry pink with gold sparkles, closer to light it changes to a golden champagne shade. Strongest colour shifter, very metallic, gold sparkles.
  • Pyromantic Erotica - Vibrant orange. Starts off orange with strong golden-yellow sheen, closer to light it becomes a purer, darker, more vibrant orange as gold changes to redder-orange. Very metallic, less sparkly.
  • Glitterboi - The most perplexing. In the jar a deep midnight blue, on skin it's a deep blue with purple sparkles and a very strong green sheen. Closer to light, morphs to a dark, vibrant blue-based purple. Metallic & sparkly.

The colour-shift on Velvet Vampire is the strongest, with Glitterboi and Sequined Master close behind. They're all pretty strong shifts, though - much stronger than some of the older Arcanes like Wizard's Apprentice and Elemental Fire. The colour-shift is stronger than pictured in reality.

These beauties weren't the only thing in my lovely package, I also got this adorable little cutie.

Isn't he cute? He's super-soft and lovely, and he needs a name! Which brings me on to the next thing in my package.

These weird little pink blobs are mini-sized little tester pots of Pixie Epoxy! My favourite primer, and... well, favourite make-up product in general. I mentioned a while ago on Twitter that I wanted to get a bunch of Pixie Epoxy samples to give away to people who'd never tried it, and so they magically appeared in my parcel, courtesy of the Epoxy's creator, Fyrinnae's multi-talented chemist.

_____________________________
Mini-Contest!
NOW CLOSED. Thanks for participating!

This is only for people who haven't tried Pixie Epoxy (don't lie!). Five of you Pixiepoxie-virgins will win a little tub (the samples are roughly 1ml, which is enough for manymany uses) of the magical gunk, and probably a few eyeshadow samples, too, depending on how generous I'm feeling.

To enter, just comment stating that you've never tried the Pixie Epoxy (no lying!) and suggesting a name for my lovely new tiger. I'll pick 5 of the names I like the most and post the winners up on Friday, so you've got 'til then. Open to everyone, everywhere in the world, provided you've not already tried the epoxy.

_____________________________

There were other things in my parcel, too, but I'm keeping those to myself. Many, many many thank you's to Fyr, for the lovely surprise, and his partner for mailing it.

I'm also all in love with Glitterboi, and not just for the name.

I wore the heck outta Velvet Vampire, it's the opposite of my Angel color. VV is pink with gold, Georgiana is gold with pink, they look SO amazing together :)

Your swatches make me giddy.

I have never tried Pixie Epoxy, or any Fyrinnae in fact, although this post might get me to click on that buy button.

How about Baihu as a name :)? In China, Baihu= God of the West

BAH. Those shadows. I might drool all over my computer <3

I have not tried the pixie epoxy, only because I've been a faithful UDPP user, but I think I'd give it a shot.

You should name your tiger (assuming it is male) Galileo :)

Phyrra - Show Pyromantic Erotica some love! It has the second-best name of the bunch, imo. Come to think of it, I've not seen you in orange eyeshadow.

Thank you, Simone! And rofl. Ah but us people who know the wonder that is Pixiepoxie want to spread the word to the nonbelievers.

Wow, I should like, start my own cult. The word according to Sparkle.

I've worn AgentOrange! I can wear some orange, just depends how I do the look. If it's too warm it looks like crap on me.

Grey, I'm in love with them allllll but Sequined Master is my favourite name.

Ooh, I bet it would go well with Georgina. You should swatch them side by side so I can oggle. Its colour shift is just deliciousness. I haven't worn any on my eyes yet, I was swatchmania today.

And, I love Tigers.

Lol I'm just super jealous of you right now. Lucky lucky you! :D

I've never tried Pixie Epoxy (or any Fyrinnae for that matter) but I plan to <3 I have an awesome haul planned for my birthday!

As for a name suggestion - I vooooote...BLANC TYP - no, just kidding. Fionn, because let's face it, Irish guys are hot, and this name is also very hot. And it means "fair" or "white" :)

I think I might be in love with Pyromantic Erotica. The color and the name both.

Which, I've never tried pixie epoxy before. Is it pink, or is that just the tubs?

And that tiger is so cute. D: Did you know that 2010 is the year of the white (metal) tiger? Maybe a name based that means "metal?" Like Temujin?

17 February 2010 03:06

I've never bought or used anything from Fyrinnae before, so this might be my chance to start. :D

As for the tiger - awww, he's so cute! - let's call him... uh... Snowdrop! ...I got nothin'. Are we allowed to suggest multiple names? If so, then... how about... Scrambles the Death Dealer? Snow...flake? Snow...fall? Snow White? Milky? Basmati? Qwerty? (my keyboard is white with black letters...) Whiteriot? Sylph? (after the Aromaleigh eyeshadows) Okay I'm done.

17 February 2010 03:34

Oh.My.Goodness. Love.

I still hold my Poxy V Card.

And you need to know that all Aromaleigh Rocks! are 35% off.

I solemnly swear that (I'm up to no good) I've never tried Pixie Epoxy :3

Ummm since I can't suggest 20 names, I'll suggest the longest and most ridiculous one I came up with - Hephaestus J. Squigglesworth.

Hephaestus was the Greek god of technology, blacksmiths, forges, metal, fire and volcanoes, which is fitting with what someone said about 2010 being the year of the white (metal) tiger :)

I also love Hephaestus because he was a total underdog - Hera threw him off Olympus when he was born because he was deformed and lame. Then he made his way back to Mt Olympus (pretty sure he's the only one who's returned there from exile) and is one of the 12 Olympians now.

Then he went on to marry Aphrodite (no small feat), but she cheated on him with the god of war Ares, so he set traps to catch them and embarrass them in front of all Olympus.

As far as the J. is concerned, having a random initial in your name sounds all professional and cool and shit, though it could secretly just stand for 'Jay' like Homer in the Simpsons.

And as for Squigglesworth - HES A TIGER ^_^ lots of squiggly and stripy fun

17 February 2010 03:40

And hngggggh Velvet Vampire is so pretty, even though the name makes me think of Twilight and therefore makes me want to punch inanimate objects.

I knew there was a reason I hadn't ordered my Pixie Epoxy yet, despite the fact that I trust your opinion dearly and know it'll be awesome. It's so I could enter thus very contest! (So, yeah, I've never tried PE is what I'm saying!)

I suggest you name your tiger Montecore (Monty for short) after the tiger that attacked Roy Horn, of Siegfried & Roy. Not that a man being mauled is funny, buy if I was a tiger and some dude pulled me out on stage, ordered me to lay down, and then smacked me over the head with a microphone, I'd drag him off that stage by his neck too! Really, I'd do that now, and I am not even a tiger (as far as I know...)

So I am absolutely furious with them, and in consequence, have never tried Pixie Epoxy. *Angry face* I feel really bad because it was clearly packaged with care and love and Royal Mail still managed to nuke it. What a fantastic gift! The eyeshadows are all gorgeous, esp Electric Dust and Futuristic Glam Rock. I'm definitely gonna order some samples when they are released. And the tiger is so cute too!

I ordered the Pixie Epoxy (together with some Arcane shadows) a few days ago. I wish I had waited now but after reading your rave reviews I couldn't resist any longer. I can't wait to get my package and see what the fuss is about.

A good name for the tiger: Rupert Giles. Or Higgensworth Fuzzybottom.

I think the tiger should be named...Carlos. He is exotic and sexy looking.

Ps I love your blog... the swatches and cuteness with edge are amazing.

If I were you I would name my tiger Odin. There is a white tiger named Odin in a zoo near San Francisco, and he is very special because he actually enjoys diving in water. I suggest you look him up. Plus, I think it would be a very cute name for a tiger.

P.S. I live in the U.S., does that matter?

I have never tried the Pixie Epoxy, but I would love to! I really like some of the names already offered, but I am going to try my hand at it anyway...

Random names: Shere Khan (an orange tiger from the Jungle Book, literally meaning "Tiger King" in Urdu/Hindi), Daemon (with Philip Pullman in mind), Bianca ("white"), Panthera (the genus of the cat family), Shadow (For Neil Gaiman's character), Niveous (resembling snow, snow-white in color in Latin), Azrael (an angel of death....this doesn't really make sense, but I like the name and tigers -are- deadly...)

I love the Ewok suggestion up above, but I am going to put forward: Wicket Wystri Warrick from Return of the Jedi

World of Warcraft names: Snowpaw (Sentiel Sweetspring's Guardian in Dragonblight), Mr. Bigglesworth (Kel'Thuzad's kitty in Naxxramas), King Bangalash (Super bad white tiger in Stranglethorn Vale)

Firefly names: Inara ("Shining"), Reynolds ("Brave counciler/advisor"), Jayne

:)

What about "Burst"? His orangey nose is reminding me of a dream I had a couple nights ago where the field across the street bursts into flames. And his little eyebrows and stripes give off a look of surprise - And he was a surprise, wasn't he? :)

I'm a Pixie Epoxy virgin. I've been waiting until I found an eyeprimer I loved before buying some Fyrinnae. UDPP works but the bottle is ick. I picked up some TFSI last weekend, and it was separated already... I shook it up and tried it. It creased within the hour. Shook it extra hard today, and it came out with no separation. So far, it's looking good, but I do have a tiny bit of creasing in the inner corner... When I find my HG primer, I shall order some Fyrinnae. For now though, my Rapunzel had Extensions is sitting all alone in my makeup drawer.

Tiger's name should be Naomi. Meaning enjoyment or pleasure, which Fyrinnae definitely provides! As do contests and giveaways and free things! Plus, you can tack it onto the end of the name. Like, Fyr-in-nae-o-mi. I am a dork. :D

@ Alishia -

I've personally never had that kind of problem with my epoxy, but I've also not had that problem with any eye primer. I was reading another Epoxy review though, where they said you had to use the smallest amount possible because too much and it becomes impossible to blend. Have you tried experimenting with using very very little? The Fyrinnae website says that, too, that you need literally the smallest dab you can manage.
