It speaks to how much I adore Fyrinnae that I'd buy neutral colours from them. I don't think I've ever picked a neutral colour when shopping, before. Alas, they had nerdy names, and thus I was helpless.
This look is actually my own take on a LetzMakeup tutorial video I watched. I sort of used her technique, but changed all the colours and blahblah. Neutral looks tend to look washed out and muddy on me, but this one came out pretty well, I think. That's my new favourite lip combination, too!

Paladins Can't Wear The Helm of Disintergration - Step-by-Step

Why, yes, that is a 'Talk Nerdy to Me' hooded shirt.

I don't know why I look like I'm asleep, dreaming of chasing mice, here.

Eyes
I actually followed this video tutorial for the eyes, in terms of technique, etc. So I'll explain what products I used and changes underneath it. You should probably watch it, then read my changes, if you want to try and recreate it.
- I used my MAC Painterly Paint Pot all over the lid, instead of Rubenesque, and then covered it all over the eye area with my miracle-product Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy. (If you don't own it, you might as well go buy it, 'cause I'm not shutting up about it anytime soon.)
- Next, I applied Fyrinnae's Polar Bear eyeshadow all over the entire lid (not inner half, like hers) and into the crease, using a regular flat shader brush.
- With a fluffier brush (MAC 224) I applied Fyrinnae's Nijiro eyeshadow all over the inner half of the lid, up toward the brow-bone, and highlighted the inner corner on the lower lashline with it, too (the way she does in the video, with her MUFE Star Powder).
- Highlight under the brown with any highlight paler than Nijiro. I used the white half of The Body Shop 02 Hot Brights Eyeshadow duo, just because it's a nice matte, pale shade that works as a highlight for me, and I snagged it for £1 in the sale (score!).
- Where she uses MAC Smoulder eye kohl, I use my Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liner in Zero, in the same place, with the same technique and smudging, etc, both on the top and bottom lashline.
- (This takes you up to about 04:30 on the video) Instead of working black eyeshadow into the crease immediately, I used Fyrinnae's Beholder eyeshadow, and worked it into the crease in the same way, with a stiff-dome brush, being careful not to shade down onto the lid.
- Instead of the Stardust #950, I used a matte black eyeshadow (something from a Sleek iDivine palette, Fyrinnae do Snow White if you need one) sparingly on a pencil brush (tap it off if you're worried about looking like you've been socked in the eye/work in a coal mine/are a panda) and worked it into the crease, over Beholder, to really darken the crease and make the lid pop out more.
- With the same brush, and same black, I worked it over the smudged winged-out liner on the outer-V of my eye, to add more definition there, too.
- I skipped the glitter (trying to be neutral, here!) and touched things up, now - re-applied eyeliner, re-highlighted a little, brushed on a little more Nijiro wherever my black shadow became too heavy or intrusive, and generally touched up anything that wasn't blended enough for my tastes.
- Then like usual, I primed my lashes with Urban Decay's Eyelash Primer, and used Bourjois Liner Effect mascara.
Lips
- Exfoliated with LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub (which really does taste of bubblegum).
- Applied Aromaleigh Lip Balm (Licorice Twist!), left it for a few minutes, then blotted off any excess.
- Applied Illamasqua lipstick in Submit (I've wanted this for ages, just for the name. Close friends will know why.)
- Over it, I used my favourite lip product ever which is Fyrinnae's Deceptive Innocence lip lustre. I love the name, I love the slightly pinkish-neutral nude colour of it, everything. It's hard for me to find a nude lip colour that's not too dark, too brown, or too peach - this is perfect.
Face
- Prime with Fyrinnae's Velvet-Gel Silica Primer.
- Apply concealer - Bobbi Brown's Corrector in Light Bisque - where necessary.
- Dot Estée Lauder Doublewear foundation in Shell over areas that need the most coverage using the MAC 191 brush.
- Buff foundation into skin in circular motions using the MAC 187, adding more where necessary, until it's all blended in.
- Wipe off the MAC 187 and buff Fyrinnae's Fluff Finishing Powder all over face to finish.
- Apply Milani Powder Blush in #08 Luminous blush along cheekbones (NARS Orgasm dupe).
And that's it! I think people are always envious of what others have - people tell me they wish they could wear bright colours (you can, you ninny) and I'm jealous of people who pull off neutrals really well. Because I'm pale, a lot of them just wash out and look muddy, but I think this more goldeny-smoky neutral thing worked, although the original on LetzMakeup's video looked much better, but I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that's because she is ludicrously pretty.
I didn't get to use Damn Paladins in this look, which was what started me buying neutrals from Fyrinnae in the first place, but it still inspired the EOTD name.

I still love this look, I just can't get over your amazingly beautiful eyes! I have to agree with Second, that neutrals really bring them out (although you rock brights, too). How do the face products feel?
6 February 2010 10:28I hate this expression, but neutrals totes make your eyes ~pop.
6 February 2010 11:24Do you think the Fyrinnae face primer would help foundation stay on longer in the heat? Or is it just good for making the skin all smooth and what-not.
Saila, thank you :3
6 February 2010 11:28My eyes aren't so great! I often wish they were light-coloured, so that they looked better in dark, smoky eyeshadow. But everyone wants what they don't have, 'eh? Big brown eyes, it could be worse.
The primer is... weird. It looks like a gel, well, it is a gel, but it dries to a velvety feel. Like the name suggests, I guess. I wasn't expecting much from it, because I adore my Urban Decay Pore Perfection primer, but actually I think it gives me the same result. It's definitely worth trying - it isn't the same as regular dimethicone based primers that just make you slippery. I use the regular one, 'cause I'm oily, but there's also a dry skin version.
The fluff is also great. It's much, much better than plain old silica and it doesn't fly everywhere and you won't inhale it, which is a plus. I think it creates a nice, flawless-type finish. I don't like it quite AS much as my adored Purely Cosmetics Perfect Diamond Finish powder, but given the vast price difference (PDF is $18.50 plus shipping) I'm going to use my Fluff everyday and save my PDF for special occasions.
Silhouette, yeah, it is a dumb expression, but I know what you mean. And thank you! Phyrra and I have the same problem, that browns look like poop on. I think I need to go with golden or pinky taupes to pull off neutral - but I don't have much practice with 'em.
6 February 2010 11:31The primer isn't just one that will make your face slippery, like most cheap primers. It's a gel which dries to a strange velvety type feel, but it goes on gel, not like the UD primer I use which goes on velvety. It's... well, hard to describe. I think it did make it stick longer, and honestly visibly, I think my foundation looked just as good over Fyrinnae's primer as it did over my $30 UD primer.
So I'll definitely keep using it, and review it when I feel like I've got enough experience to form a solid opinion. I recommend trying it out, though, 'cause it's cheap as chips, and it's definitely another unique little piece of genius from those Fyrinnae boys.
I love this look! You did an amazing job...it looks fabulous! :) x
6 February 2010 11:54Thanks! It was a total change for me, so I'm glad people like it ^__^
6 February 2010 11:56Very pretty! Neutral but not boring :D
6 February 2010 13:22Excess cranial pressure makes your eyes pop
6 February 2010 14:34I love this look. It's neutral but gorgeous! You did a great job, as always.
6 February 2010 14:42I owe you a huge thanks for all your raving about Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy!
6 February 2010 15:14I ordered it a few weeks ago, it arrived today, I tried it out with just some TKB micas just now...and wow. I've just started a blog and I had to review it. I'm sure there's nothing new for you, but if you're interested to read it... http://givethejewgirlgoys.blogspot.com
...so yeah, thanks! I am listening to your recommendations from now on!
C'est gorgeous! It's striking, and I love how the shading goes. Very chiaroscuro (there's a £10 word). I'm lured by neutrals that have a duochrome effect and most of Fyrinnae's have some clever colour-shiftiness (I am quite eager to get their 'Envy Me'). When I think of neutrals used negatively, in the way that some people speak of them, it is 'plastered onto eyelids willy-nilly so they look the same as they were before, but more bland'. All-purpose shades of mediocre. This is not that.
6 February 2010 15:45I am rather pleased with the Velvet Gel stuff also. I was resigned to the idea of any and all foundations being all powdery and laboured-looking (regardless of what type I wear) but it sorts that right out.
How colourful is Nijiro? I'm after a pale/white version of Immortality or Gasoline Rainbow, sort of an opposite.
Although I am sulking at Fyrinnae today (only enough for them to know I really love 'em) because they've shed a lot of colours. I know they're adding new ones soon, but they've taken Iris away and left me with only a wee jar! And while their site is being tinkered with, I can't give them any money. Feh.
Thanks, Nea! <3
6 February 2010 15:58Matt - shush >:[
6 February 2010 15:58Gio - Thanks hon! Maybe I'll do neutral more often, who knows :p
6 February 2010 15:58Simone - I'm glad to hear it! I checked your blog out (went through your blogger profile, since you typo'd the link, silly goose) and commented. Awesome swatches =D
6 February 2010 15:58I'm dying to know which Fyrinnae eyeshadows you got, too!
Fuchsia, thank you! I don't ever want to do boring. My eyes look considerably better with make-up on them, so I'll stick to make-up I can actually see.
6 February 2010 16:01Iris isn't gone! It's just being renamed, it's coming back! Most of them are. A few have gone, like Predatory, but I know Iris will be back. You should grab samples in both Nijiro and Mischief makers (look at my latest swatch post to see the difference in base colour)
Nijiro is the warmer, more flesh-toned version, Mischief Makers is the paler, more neutral whiter version. They both have the same rainbow sparkle - precisely what you're looking for. Nijiro makes a nicer highlight, I think, but if you're after a striking white-ish one for contrast, grab Mischief.
Or get both, y'know.
Thankyou! I noticed references to re-jiggering in their blog, but was not sure of specifics. Whee. I will not be deprived of Iris. (I have many lilac/green duochromes, but it rules them all.)
6 February 2010 16:09From looking at swatches (yours, site ones and others) Mischief Makers looked quite grey or silver, maybe not much use if I was getting Equality anyway (which will happen). But if it is more of a white, that's ideal.
Ta! You're very useful. :-D
Fuchsia, I'll swatch Equality, Nijiro and Mischief Makers next to one another close-up later today, and update the last swatch post with it for you, so you can get a better idea.
6 February 2010 16:12I've been meaning to do a comparative one with all the highlights, including the ghosts, and otherworld, too.
Excellent, thanks very much! It's not out of the realm of possibility that I'll get all three, ultimately, but at least can decide whether one is worth a full-size jar.
6 February 2010 16:15I deem this blog a worthwhile public service.
...hah, you're right, I made a fail. It was my epic excitement that made me do it, I swear.
6 February 2010 16:26I got Bifrost, 1.22 Gigawatts and AM DragonMagic. I tried 1.22 Gigawatts really quickly (just brushed it onto bare skin) and it's an awesome colour...I'm hoping it'll stick much better with a primer and the Pixie Epoxy, though. I'm sure it will.
Thanks for your comment :)
Wow, I love how this neutral look turned out on you! I may have to try it with your colors. Though I don't have Painterly, I have Bare Study.
6 February 2010 16:38This is really pretty and not a typical neutral look. Perfect!
6 February 2010 17:45that looks super pretty on you!
6 February 2010 18:04I'll have to try something like that out. I have been wearing bold lipstick as of late and need to tone my eyes down a bit.
I'm one of the ones jealous on how well you can wear colours- I tend to look like a clown.
6 February 2010 18:08Yes, another 'Pixie Epoxy has made my life better' convert here, thanks to you.
6 February 2010 18:33I love this look; I do like neutrals.
(The one advantage of brown eyes is that they can take bright eyeshadows well, I find. I wish mine were Paul Newman blue though.)
Gorgeous lippie! If I had any spending money right now, it would go straight to Illamasqua. Or Fyrinnae...I want that danged Pixie Epoxy! So many choices. Your tightlining is crazy perfect.
7 February 2010 01:35Love it. Another fantastic look. I have to agree neutrals are usually boring which is why I don't wear them but you pull this off so pretty and it isn't your typical "neutral" look. You're gonna make me have an addiction here. Lol, my bank will love you.
7 February 2010 10:16Just beautiful!
7 February 2010 12:47I reallly really like this, both the colors and technique. Your application is flawless!
7 February 2010 20:09Beautiful!!! Your eyes look so big and I love the blending. :)
8 February 2010 01:12Strange, you're posting a neutral look and I'm planning on a purple look today! (Yes, I'm lazy, I haven't showered yet.) It looks quite nice. Polar Bear's on my wish list.
8 February 2010 16:35I love when you do these dark smoldering looks. They are just soo pretty.
8 February 2010 21:49Deceptive Innocence looks great on you. It actually looks like a milky pink on me, which is nice, but not what I expected :x The neutrals are a nice change, actually, and don't make you look washed out at all. I think it's because your purple hair doesn't let you get too monochrome :D
9 February 2010 00:05Also, I did get Pixie Epoxy because of you... in case you're keeping count :p I do love it but it dries more quickly than I'd like :(
*unlurks* wow, super pretty :)(actually, I think they're always super pretty, but this is lovely for being a bit different to your normal style
