EOTD: I Don't Want To Go Among Mad People

This will be my first EOTD since the hairdresser horribly butchered my hair. As you'll soon see (you're laughing already, aren't you?), I look like some kind of horrific butch-asian-elf/Queen member. I love the asian-style layered fringe, and I even like the choppy elf-style cut, but I don't have the face to carry it off, not nearly. You need angles for a thing like that. I'm severely lacking in angles. So, it looks ridiculous, but it is, at least, growing.

I'd planned simply not to do full-face EOTDs until my awful 'do could be salvaged into something better, but then my pretty Fyrinnae eyeshadows arrived, so I thought I'd brave the humiliation to show you, properly, how it looks on.
If you somehow missed it, Fyrinnae won my best brand of 2009 award in my round-up post, because they're incredibly awesome and full of win.

I Don't Want To Go Among Mad People - Step-by-Step

Ignore the hair. It's still long, just tied back. Looks worse down.

Face

  • Prime with Urban Decay Pore Perfecting primer.
  • Apply concealer - Bobbi Brown's Corrector in Light Bisque - where necessary.
  • Dot Estée Lauder Doublewear foundation in Shell over areas that need the most coverage using the MAC 191 brush.
  • Buff foundation into skin in circular motions using the MAC 187, adding more where necessary, until it's all blended in.
  • Wipe off the MAC 187 and buff Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish all over face to finish. I use my special batch of green DPF for anti-redness, too.
  • Apply Purely Cosmetics Blushing blush along cheekbones (NARS Orgasm dupe).

Eyes

  • Prime with a MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, smoothed all over the lid and up to the eyebrow.
  • Add a dab of Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy to the lid and smooth it over the paint pot. (Yes, it's still amazing. If you haven't got yours yet, go get it now.) I also dabbed a little and smoothed it on the lower lashline (beneath the waterline) but I did that later on.
  • When the epoxy goes tacky (after a few seconds), dab/pat Fyrinnae's Shallow Sleep eyeshadow over the inner 2/3 of the lid, up to the crease, with a flat shader brush (GOSH Flat Eyeshadow brush/MAC 239).
  • Go over Shallow Sleep with Fyrinnae's Looking Glass, using the same brush (again, dab/pat, never brush. I pretty much do this for every eyeshadow).
  • With another flat shader brush, or a dense stiff dome brush (I used GOSH Flat to pack it on the rest of the lid, then Revlon Contour Shadow brush to blend it into the crease), apply Fyrinnae's Japan to the remaining 1/3 of the lid, into the outer-V and shaded into the crease. Make it heavier/darker on the outer-portion of the eye crease and lighter toward the inner-corner.
  • Using a pencil brush (MAC 219/GOSH Round eyeshadow brush) highlight the inner corner with MAC Mutiny pigment and blend it out toward the middle of the crease. I used the same brush dry to blend out the Japan in the outer-half of the crease a little, too.
  • Highlight beneath the eyebrow and blend the edges of Japan/Mutiny out. I used the shimmery white from numerous Sleek iDivine palettes. Re-highlight under the highest point of the brow arch.
  • Dot a little Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy on the lower lashline (beneath waterline) and smooth it even. When tacky, use a clean pencil brush to dab Fyrinnae's Curiouser and Curiouser under the eye, along the lower lashline.
  • With the same brush, darken the outer portion of the lower lashline with Japan and blend toward the centre.
  • Line waterline & upper lashline, and wing it out. Make it way less fail than mine. I used, as ever, Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in Zero. Were I feeling adventurous, I might try lining with Fyrinnae's Necromantic, instead.
  • Prime lashes with Urban Decay Eyelash Primer (after curling, if you so desire, I never bother).
  • Add a few million coats of Bourjois Liner Effect mascara, and you're done.

This EOTD used Shallow Sleep, Looking Glass, Japan & Curiouser And Curiouser.

Lips

  • Prime with Urban Decay Lip Primer.
  • Apply MAC lipstick in Saint Germain.
  • Top with MAC Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks.

And all done. This is the third Fyrinnae look I've done since getting the eyeshadows swatched above, but only the first I've bothered to properly photograph/post up. I'll definitely be doing more when the rest of my Fyrinnae arrives. If you're curious, still to arrive is...

This is GORGEOUS! Brown eyes+turquoise eye shadow look very nice together <3

Fyrinnae eye shadows are so pigmented!

Ohhh everything Fyrinnae do is wonderful *___* And thanks! I REALLY love Looking Glass, so I was delighted I got really good pigmentation from it given that it's matte. Japan is amazing, too! Arghthey'reallamazing.

WOW! this look is AMAZING! i'm not a color person when it comes to eye makeup...but i love how others (like you) can pull it off so well! i think i might want to try this look out one of these days! 8)

Thank you Rena! <3! I think we always hanker after other people's styles - I'm jealous of people who look great in neutrals, but since I'm so pale they tend to wash me out.

Fyrinnae still do amazing, subtle shadows too, though. I even bought some taupes! You should try bright looks - you'd be surprised what you can wear if you master blending it out (soft edges help soften a bold colour!) or maybe try bold eyeliner?

Thanks darling! I looooooooooove Looking Glass. It's one of my favourites, I really like the matte/shimmer in this, too.

Hope your lip is on the mend <3

Every single time I see your FOTD's with Fyrinnae I ask myself why I don't have this brand in my life. This look has pushed me to finally get some. [not that i needed pushing] INCREDIBLY stunning. REDONKULOUSLY bright. Just the way it should be! :)

How is it that between your big order and my big order there is very little overlap? I'm trying to branch out in my color selection, I swear!

4 January 2010 21:52

Anastasia said...

Thank you Nongoma! I do keep raving about them, don't I? BUUUUYYYY ITTTT. You won't regret it! Make sure you grab some pixie epoxy (Ahh! You get the vibrancy from foiling without having to apply wet!) and... man there's so many colours to recommend, but samples are HUGE (if you love brights, they have a category organised by brightest shades!) and free shipping over $20!

Be sure to check out some of the incredible sparkly ones, too.

4 January 2010 21:53

Hahaha! Jaimi, weirdly the one I'm most excited about is Velociraptor. Because... just how awesome is it to have a yellow named after a dinosaur?

Ahhh, I'm too excited. Btw if you want to share swatches, etc, you're more than welcome to guest post/review here <3

Everyone is making me want to buy some Fyrinnae. And I would be ALL over it if I had ANY money, haha. I did go and make a wishlist yesterday...so when I do get money it'll be easier for me to be *clickbuy*! I even put things I already have in there, haha.

Lovely look, the blues make your eyes look like a reddish brown. Fyrinnae is one of my favorite brands too, I haven't found anything like them. They have the most perfect purple color ever invented ( Parental Advisory.) Gah I adore them! X3
I know you don't like your hair cut, I felt the same way about mine a few months ago. They cut my bob to a shag. It was horrifying. Have you tried putting cute clips and such in it yet? That helped me with my terra-bad hair.

Excellent, and I love the name. It's one of my favourite Alice phrases (I have a lot, being something of an Alice nut.)
The colours are super, and I'm glad you did something with 'Japan' 'cos I can't decide between it and 'Jaguar' (the swatches look the wrong way round on the site, Jaguar looks more sheer). I'll probably get 'em both in the fullness but it looks really impressive here.

I think my absolute favourites are 'Faerie Glamour', 'Iris' and 'The Fancy Lad', though. Something about brights+green shimmeryness, maybe.
I hope you make peace with your hair.

Ooh, please swatch the others when you get them! I love Fyrinnae. But the thing is I still don't have a hang of pigments and can't apply them very well. And the putting the colors on the bottom lid... it's very hard for me. It would be cool if you could make a video.

And the look is beautiful! Cheshire Cat Grin and Curiouser and Curiouser are two of my favorite blues. So vibrant!

Hey, I discovered your blog reading Shrinkle's twitter and It's so cool! i'm also a geek girl. I LOVE WoW and UC look is so pretty! I used to play GW before I decided to spend full time with WoW but I stil love the designs of the entire GW game and I love the make up you did inspired by it.
The look in this post is awesome! I love the colors, I didn't know about this make up brand, but I'll check the website right now, the colors look so pretty!
you're very talented girl!

Anastasia said...

Thanks Pixie! I have Parental Advisory on its way *__*
I haven't tried any clips, I don't do hair accessories often, except to tie it up when it's a pain. It looks... okay, if I just straighten it all and wear it totally flat, but I like to punk it up, and now I can't without looking stupid ;;

A lot of the colours were from Fyrinnae's Mad Tea Party collection, Fuschia. I remember picking them mostly because I adored the idea of an Alice collection.

Yeah, it's one of my favourite lines, too. And also:
Alice: I was just wondering if you could help me find my way.
Cheshire Cat: Well that depends on where you want to get to.
Alice: Oh, it really doesn't matter, as long as...
Cheshire Cat: Then it really doesn't matter which way you go.

I've got jaguar on the way, but I am thrilled with japan. I think jaguar has more of a purple tone to it, whereas japan is a very dark blue/teal. Stunning, though.

4 January 2010 23:49

Anastasia said...

Hey Raz! I'll definitely be swatching them all - I can't wait - although a video is unlikely. I haaaaaate making videos (hence why I haven't done any yet) and considering I use a camera phone, I don't have the tech for it - I'd have to do all my make-up one-handed and try and aim the crappy video-camera function on my phone at my face? Not condusive to good make-up!

Maaaybe. Phyrra does pigmented looks, and videos, though, you should check those out. S'all about getting the primer on and then dabbing with the right brush, etc.

4 January 2010 23:51

Anastasia said...

Thanks Sakura! (Haha, japan fan much? Kawaii desu~)

I need to do more game-inspired make-up, I got kinda lazy. Oooops. I try to throw in a little dash of my nerdiness, here and there. I worked out what hexidecimal code my skin is in Photoshop, does that count? It's c1b2ba!

It's always great to have new readers, particularly more geeky gamer girls who love make-up, too. There's a surprising number of us!

Thank you thank you <33 you've got some fair talent yourself there, you make some amazing stuff!

Ohgod, Ana, SO PRETTY. I need Shallow Sleep and Looking Glass in my life (and I have Japan already). There are so very, very many Fyrinnae shadows I want, I must admit. >.>

4 January 2010 23:55

Anastasia said...

Looking Glass is goooooooooorrrrrgeeeeeeeeeous. And I can't believe it goes on so well, when it's matte. Ahh. I love love it. Shallow Sleep is a little more sky blue and has more shimmer to it, but they're both stunning.

Yeeessss, we all need more Fyrinnae.

I like (what I can see) of your hair! I'm saving Phyrra's list and what else I've garnered from the "neutra/boring/old folk colors" to try with the epoxy when I get back to the states. Look! All English! Lord, Spanish keyboards are annoying.

5 January 2010 00:03

Anastasia said...

My hair is awful :[ trust me.

Well done! All English, although you did manage to post twice, but I'll let you off.

I even bought two neutrals! Taupes! Eeeek. I don't know what to do with them. This is unfamiliar territory! I hope you're enjoying the rest of Spain, though. Or wherever you are.

Damnit damnit damnit. How am I supposed to resist ordering fyrinnae before our tax return hits when you keep doing shit like that. Honestly? Think of my poor christmas strained wallet...

also the haircut is probably the cutest haircut in the history of haircuts. It DOES flatter you. and you DO look like a flipping pixie got it on with an elf, popped out a baby and then gave it cuteness implants in each eyeball. GAH.

Oh, no, my hair is ridiculous. Really, you should see it down, it's like a borderline mullet. Ugggh. Hurry up and growwwwwww.

5 January 2010 01:39

Anastasia said...

That...really did sound dirty Ash, but I know what you mean. I suck at eyeliner, honestly, though I've found it's a lot easier if I don't put mascara on first. *Slaps forehead*

5 January 2010 01:40

Anastasia said...

I heard about it, Rae, seen the pictures and whatnot. I'm 'eh' about it. I really like the UD Book of Shadows palettes, but UD tend to not really be bright enough for me, although I adore their eyeshadow texture.

I'm... looking forward to seeing the film, but I'm not overly hopeful. I loved Nightmare Before Christmas but I don't think everything Burton does turns to gold, everyone fucks stuff up. Corpse Bride, case in point.

5 January 2010 01:49

Anastasia said...

Thanks Connie! My hair is awful, but it'll grow o_x and Japan is aaweeeesome.

Weirdly, I had this blue jacket that exact colour, and it came with a big badge that said japan on it.

Your EOTD is gorgeous as usual. As for your hair it looks great. But I know it's what we think ourselves and not what other people think....:O) Anywho from the pic(s) you've posted it has not made me run screaming.

Apparently, the post I posted under the new years posting didn't make it. Augg I hate when that happens.

Yeah my post got lost in cyber space. Anyway out of everything I wrote, the only thing I really remember is telling you I finally dyed my hair red. Okay not the bright burgundy red or the bright red red but I've got a lot of compliments on it. Think Julianne Moore red. Unfortunately I had to cut off a nice chunk of my hair because it was breaking like crazy. Oh well one of my goals is to take care of my hair and grow it out. :O)

Let's see if this sticks....

I need Japan XD! Teal is one of my favorite colors, and that one... wow, it's gorgeous.

I hear you about bad haircuts. The worst I ever had was when I cut off all my hair, but gave the hairstylist very specific instructions on the length I wanted (a little shorter than chin level, so I could go back in later and trim it to the look I wanted, once I saw what my hair would do at that length). Not only did she not listen, but she did such a bad job that I had to go to another stylist to get it cut to a boy's length (aka, extremely short, without even a pixie option)! I was mortified.

I'm also surprised of all the geeky gamers in love with make up! Idon't know any in Spain :( I've got a Japanese friend and she and her sister love games and beauty in general and fashion. It's so nice to meet ppl like that cause usually ppl who like beauty-fashion hate games and tech in general :(

Yeah more game inspired make up would be great! Necromance GW look and Arthas (Lich King version, I love him <3 ) would be awesome :D

Japan IS fantastic, Karou. Bali Mynah is awesome, too, in the teal family. Really bright.

When I was around 12-ish, my mother decided that to cheer me up (because I was being bullied, no less) she'd have the hairdresser cut all my hair off to the ears and give me a bowl cut. A BOWL CUT, MOTHER. Shudder. This incident also coincided with my unfortunate obsession with padded bubble-coats.
