I was supposed to be going to see Avatar today, so I decided to use some of my lovely new Fyrinnae to do an Avatar-inspired look, based on the blue feline-esque creatures, the Navi.
The Navi. Stop thinking about Zelda.
I didn't want a giant V on my forehead, a sound decision as it transpired, because when we got to the cinema the Avatar showing was sold out, and we saw Daybreakers instead. (So no Avatar spoilers!)
Daybreakers is a vamp-movie (if only I'd had a black lipstick in my bag, I could have adapted and had appropriately themed make-up again) which isn't really deserving of co-ordinating make-up. It was all right, bar the ridiculous amount of ludicrously overdone, comical gratuitous gore (there's a scene with about thirty vamp-soliders, everyone's eating everyone else and there's a decapitated head whizzing slowly across the screen) and the last fifteen minutes needs re-writing to... not suck. No pun intended.
But, here's the Avatar look anyway.
Do You Want To Date My Navi - Step-by-Step
- Prime with Urban Decay Pore Perfecting primer.
- Apply concealer - Bobbi Brown's Corrector in Light Bisque - where necessary.
- Dot Estée Lauder Doublewear foundation in Shell over areas that need the most coverage using the MAC 191 brush.
- Buff foundation into skin in circular motions using the MAC 187, adding more where necessary, until it's all blended in.
- Wipe off the MAC 187 and buff Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish all over face to finish. I use my special batch of green DPF for anti-redness, too.
- Apply Purely Cosmetics Blushing blush along cheekbones (NARS Orgasm dupe).
Eyes
- Prime with a MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, smoothed all over the lid and into the crease. I stopped there, this time, 'cause I'm tired of having to over-highlight to get rid of its darker colouring, considering how pale I am.
- Add a dab of Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy to the lid and smooth it alllllllll over the eye area.
- With a flat-shader brush*, dab/pat Fyrinnae's 1.22 Gigawatts over the first two thirds of the lid (from inner-corner), up to the crease.
- Using another flat-shader brush*, dab/pat Fyrinnae's Cheshire Cat Grin onto the last third of the eyelid, then brush it into and slightly above the crease, blending toward the inner-corner.
- With a pencil brush*, darken the crease with Fyrinnae's But I Like Frogs. This should not extend over the crease and cover all the Cheshire Cat Smile, but just be used in a C-shape (or, inverted on the other side) along the outer-V and to darken the deepest part of the crease.
- Using a small stiff-domed brush*, dip it sparingly in Fyrinnae's Wizard's Apprentice, tap-off and very lightly brush onto a small area in the centre of the lid, blending gently to highlight the area.
- Back with the pencil brush* again (clean one, please), highlight the inner-corner with Fyrinnae's Anemome, and then blend out the edge of Cheshire Cat Grin above the crease with it.
- Now re-highlight the inner-corner with Fyrinnae's Otherworld, blending it around the edge of Cheshire Cat Smile to ensure a smoky, blended edge, and highlight under the brow arch with it.
- You may want to work more But I Like Frogs back into the crease/outer-V, to darken it up again after blending. I often do this (blend, re-apply, blend, re-apply) with every step, until I like the result.
- On the lower lashline, prime with a little dab smoothed across of Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy and then, with a pencil brush*, dab/pat a thin line of 1.22 Gigawatts along the lashline (not waterline), followed by Cheshire Cat Smile. Highlight the inner-corner with Otherworld, and darken the outside edge with But I Like Frogs.
- Line the upper lashline and waterline, I used Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero.
- Curl your lashes, prime them with Urban Decay Eyelash Primer, and add a few coats of Bourjois Liner Effect mascara.
- There are about a million easier ways to do the white dots, than the way I did them. Liquid, pencil or gel eyeliner, for example. I didn't have any white eyeliner, so I cut my thinnest Sonia Kashuk Bent Eyeliner brush (which has started to fray) into a very small, pointed circular brush, with small scissors.
- I dipped the brush in some Fyrinnae's Pixie Epoxy and applied the epoxy in little dabs where I wanted my white dots to be.
- Next, I dipped the brush in Aromaleigh's Whitewedding (any pigmented loose white eyeshadow will do) and then dabbed the dots over the tacky epoxy.
- If you made any a wonky shape, clean the brush, apply whatever colour the dot is against (usually Cheshire Cat Smile or Otherworld) and carefully work back over the white to tidy the edges.
- I cleaned the brush, then dabbed a little more epoxy over the top of each white dot, to sort've glue it all in place.
And done! I won't explain lips, because they were a bizarre mix of lip lustre, lipstick, concealer, another lipstick, and gloss. Pretty pointless to repeat. As ever, I'm utterly blown-away by how gorgeous Fyrinnae's eyeshadows are, and I couldn't have done this look without the pixie epoxy. It looked a lot prettier and more metallic and striking in person, and of course, my horrible hair ruins the pictures (okay, it's not that bad, because I discovered Garnier Fructis Manga Head, which is amazing).
So, I didn't get to see Avatar, yet, but at least the look wasn't wasted, since I get to share it with all of you.

7 January 2010 06:32Hang with me in my MMO, so many places we can go!
Wonderful, as always, Ana.
Holy mother! Those blues are BRIGHT! This is so beautiful. *__*
7 January 2010 06:39Love it, as usual. I think the Anemone looks incredible (imagine me saying that with a French accent, please.) It's actually in my cart along w/ pixie epoxy for when I decide it's not ridiculous for me to buy more pigment samples to add to my current mound.
7 January 2010 06:43I think you need to do a post of your new handy-dandy pigment binder since you're making addicts out of all of us. OK, perhaps I was already an addict. The first step is acknowledgement.
GORGEOUS! You look so good with blues too, wow :D
7 January 2010 07:28Ooohh yes, that is so pretty!
7 January 2010 07:46You're making my next Fyrinnae haul bigger and bigger. *shakes her fist*
Beautiful Ana. As always. I haven't seen Avatar yet myself. I think I'll do Friday. I heard the best way to see it is in 3D so I'll do that. I won't be seeing Daybreaker only cause I'm a punk and can't do overly (or that matter any) scary movies. LOL I know I know it's not real but tell that to my overactive imagination which whispers constantly "But what if it is?" :O)
7 January 2010 08:10Absolutely stunning, as always! Love it! Think I will have to try this Fyrinnae brand soon! :)

Gorgeous, I can't wait to get my order, particularly my Pixie Epoxy!!
7 January 2010 09:00Gorgeous! Very well done. =)
7 January 2010 09:34GORGEOUS! I loved Avatar and I can't imagine an inspired makeup done any better :)
7 January 2010 11:46Really like the Avatar EOTD, shame you couldn't see it. I've seen it in 3D and it's beautiful. x
7 January 2010 12:15Im pretty sure your posts are slowly easing me into the idea of wearing blue eyeshadow. :) Im still hesitant about it, but you make it look so awesome.
7 January 2010 14:09Dude, the demand for Avatar is INSANE, even here in Australia. A friend and I tried to go to my local cinema to see it on Tightass Tuesday last week, and there was a line all the way out the door to the road O_O
We ended up going to another cinema for a later session. Didn't get out till midnight, but it was soo worth it :) the 3D is epic.
You can touch my +5 Due Dexterity Vest, Lo <3
7 January 2010 15:55Oooh, can I be your ikran, please? :D Love love love those blues on you! I wish I could wear electric blues but I tend to look like a vampire stripper from Eastern Europe. Eastern than Finland, that is.
7 January 2010 17:17The hair isn't as bad as I thought it would be when I read your description. Just make it fluffy and smile (and wave) :)
This is an awesome look and totally goes with the Avatar theme! Perfect! Great job!
7 January 2010 18:28And yes, the best way to see it is in 3D! It was such a gorgeous and emotional movie. I loved it! You have to get tickets in advance and get there an hour before the movie starts. We did that and there was already a line!
I LOVED Avatar in 3D. I did want to the vamp movie you saw though.
7 January 2010 19:04I think your look is great ;)
I <3 blues.
I *just* through away my white eyeliner that I've had for years, and now I see a pretty use for it! How typical?
7 January 2010 19:05Also I think your hair looks good now you've done something to it. I know that if you hate a haircut nothing anyone else says will make a difference though. So I'll just keep my fingers crossed it grows out quickly for you instead.
wow it's so pretty!!! I love the white details :D
7 January 2010 23:08Beautiful! Just like the movie.
8 January 2010 00:47This is beeeautiful :)
8 January 2010 17:58Gorgeous! The white dots are right on for Avatar; I love it...+more stuff for my next Fyrrinae haul.
8 January 2010 17:58This is stunning Ana! Those blues look so bright and the white dots are a really nice touch.
8 January 2010 21:50I'm nervously going to recommend a vampire movie, but don't actually see it in case you don't like it and I feel stupid. "Nightwatch." The sequel's "Daywatch." I thoroughly enjoyed them, though they are a little campy. (Aren't all vamp movies, though?)
9 January 2010 07:36Did you know there's a support group for people who are depressed that Pandora's not real? I honestly wish that was the biggest of my problems!
OMG! Nightwatch and Daywatch are fantastic!
9 January 2010 15:16Yay, I'm in good cinematic company!
9 January 2010 19:23Awesome look! Love it. :)
11 January 2010 21:17This looks awesome!
