Don't Wash Your Rubbish

I like recycling, and I like being green where I can, and where it doesn't cost the government an absurd amount more to pander to environmentalists and fads (organic food isn't greener!) but sometimes I'm a little incredulous at the lengths we're expected to go in order to recycle.

Flatten my cardboard boxes, sort stuff into the right containers, remove labels? Sure. Wash my rubbish? Uh, no. Sorry, but I have enough things to wash that, you know, I actually want to use, without washing things I'm going to chuck in a recycling bin.

Anyway, this is the fun kind of recycling. The kind that results in free make-up, from a company which has created hundreds of gorgeous colours and makes some of my favourite mineral eyeshadows. Trade-in your old mineral/loose powder eyeshadows and get a free Aromaleigh eyeshadow! Just don't trade-in your Lime Crime eyeshadows - 'cause I've got a much better use for them coming up!

Here's how it works:

1. Choose a full sized mineral/loose powder eyeshadow that you no longer use, for whatever reason. It can be any brand, it just can't be Aromaleigh, of course! It can't be empty, though- it has to at least 50-100% full. It must be a mineral/loose pigment eyeshadow. It must be a full sized item- your entry is ineligible if you send a sample baggie or a sample jar (this happened frequently over the summer and is a big reason why we had to stop the promo). You're going to be trading this item in and recycling it for something new!

You must be brand new to Aromaleigh to participate.

2. Browse www.aromaleigh.com and choose an eyeshadow color OR 5 eyeshadow samples that you want to try. The choice is yours. One full sized eyeshadow OR 5 eyeshadow samples. You may choose from any collection currently on sale, but only EYE products are eligible.

3. Address a sturdy padded envelope to:

Aromaleigh Inc.
c/o Eyeshadow Trade
325 Central Avenue #325
Hilton Head Island, SC 29926

IMPORTANT: (Send your item in a sturdy bubble envelope. Please affix enough postage- we got hit with MANY postage due envelopes over the summer (If you skimp on postage, we sadly will RTS (return to sender). Please Wrap the eyeshadow in saran wrap or tissue to protect it and keep it from leaking, breaking or cracking. We need to receive an intact, non-broken eyeshadow. These items will be recycled to create a sculptural collage, so we have to be able to glue, paint and use your item. Thanks!

4. Include a note with your color choice(s), your complete name and address and EMAIL address (in case we need to get in touch with you- we have a STRICT privacy policy and do not sell, trade or abuse anyone's email address)

5. Fold up your note to Aromaleigh, your protected FULL SIZE MINERAL /LOOSE POWDER EYESHADOW that you are returning, and pop it in the mail.

6. Please allow up to 4-6 weeks for us to fill your choices. We will pack the full size OR samples of your choosing and ship them to you on our dime, along with a fabulous Aromaleigh coupon!

7. This offer is presently available for USA only. I wish we could do it Internationally, but the cost of shipping for us is simply too cost-prohibitive.

8. This offer is limited to one offer per person. (You can't get the offer filled multiple times by sending several old mineral shadows, in other words).

Dang, I wish I could do this. I'm pretty sure all I have is sample stuff, though. :( Booooo. This is a crazy awesome idea, though!

Such a shame that it's US only though :(

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal! Hopefully plenty of folks in the US will take advantage of it (I'm in the UK, so no dice). :)

I wash mine! HA! At least I did on my parents house...
but now I live in an apartment and, while we separate our garbage, I think they don't recycle, but I'm not sure...
I'm usually on a hurry to college, so I forget washing it all the time!

Still, whenever I go to my parent's home, I wash everything x.x'

I wish I could join the trading, but I don't live on the US x.x'

well... it's not like my LC products arrived anyway x.x'

I'm the same, you guys, since I'm UK too. I hope a lot of Americans try it out, though - and at least they have a good reason for not being able to do it in the UK!

If nothing else trying to send an internationally prepaid envelope would be a pain.

I live in a tiny apartment with an open floorplan, so if I don't wash my recycling I have to live with the smell for a week! Thanks for mentioning that organic=/=green, btw. Just the other day I noticed that the organic tomatoes at my grocery stores had been shipped in from *Belgium*! I live in Illinois! I'm surrounded by farmland! Seriously, Belgium? Sure, the regular ones come from California or Mexico during the off-season, but at least they haven't seen more of the world than I have.

Hey, sorry to commentbomb you today! I'm home for the Thanksgiving holiday and trying to get a jump on some final papers, so naturally I'm spending an inordinate amount of time on my favorite blogs. Anyways, I read a comment of yours on Gothique's blog where you mentioned some poor customer service you experienced with Fyrinnae. I just placed a decent-sized order with them, including some Christmas gifts, and now I'm worried. Can I ask what happened?

Hey Photo :3 No worries, I adore your comments, although they occasionally make me feel a little dim.

I wouldn't worry about Fyrinnae. Honestly, had I contacted them at the time, I'm sure they would've fixed the issues I had, but I was too ticked off at the time. Now that I have more experience with mineral make-up companies I think I'd probably appreciate them more for what they make.

The original review is here, though: http://www.lipsticksandlightsabers.com/2008/10/service-review-fyrinnaecom.html
