At Journey's End.

After a colossal move on Sunday, I'm now relatively settled in sunny Colchester (which, apparently, is Britain's oldest town, and I am under strict instructions "not to ruin it") and mooching off my brother.

Some of the surprisingly quaint little Colchester streets.

He came up to High Wycombe - where I lived previously - a week ago to help me clean up and pack. We threw LOADS away so that everything I own could fit into one car trip (more or less) and thanks to one extremely kind stranger, I got a free lift for all my stuff to the storage crate we rented.

He wasn't the only kind stranger we ran into. Taxis were more than willing to help us move things in and out and pull right into driveways etc, train station staff helped lug insanely heavy suitcases about. I'm extremely grateful for the number of people who were willing to take a little time out of their day to help me out when there was nothing in it for them - it's one of those 'restore faith in humanity' kind of moments.

After getting everything packed and stored my brother and I carried about 4 suitcases' worth of clothes (using vac-pack bags so they all fit), a double duvet & pillow, my PC, my 22" LCD monitor and a WHOLE lotta make-up for three and a half hours over several trains, tube trains, and a bus. The trip had a lot of changes and connections to make, and the suitcase my brother was pulling was so heavy that the metal handle snapped off it, and both of its wheels broke. It became a large immovable object which my poor brother just had to shove/drag up stairs and onto other means of transport. It was a little like trying to catch a tube train (the doors close VERY quickly) whilst dragging a boulder.

I consider myself lucky to have a sibling who understands that no way in hell will I be separated from my computer for any prolonged period of time, even if transporting it is incredibly impractical.

But, in the end, we did it, and my PC is all set up and I'm finding spaces to put my make-up, I'm sleeping on my brother's swinging hammock (which he owns instead of a sofa) and generally settling in. I need a small drugstore stop (I didn't bring my facewash, shampoo or conditioner, I forgot that boys don't own these things) and then I shall be back to looking vaguely human and blogging again.

I am so glad you are "home" and that your brother has been a huge help. And also glad you'll be able to blog again :-)

Thanks Muse! Gosh, me too. I wouldn't make that trip again if you paid me.

I think my EOTDs will wait until I look less awful, but I have a bunch of reviews queued.

Thank you darling!

It's definitely a relief - it's much nicer here than it was living there, anyway, I'm glad to be free of the hostility.

Ana, so glad you made it safely to your brother's place with everything that you needed, especially the makeup and pc. :O)

The town looks so cute and quaint. Can't wait to have you back with us. I'd really like to hear your review of the TKB stuffies.

Thanks Kaoru! And they're comfy for sitting on, but not so much for sleeping on account of the metal frame...

Thanks Ren :3 I heard from JC that she has a room going, private, not head tenancy, so I need to come back to check that out.

I'm waiting to hear back from Julie to get the briefs and know which days would be best to commute.

Thanks Tala :3 I brought all of my TKB samples from you with me, I'm going to swatch them all! I did a nice look using Coral Reef Blue and Blackstar Green which I liked the other day, but didn't photograph it - gonna redo it for an EOTD though :3

I've also seen a room advertised down my street, private, £55 a week. Don't know any more details than that, I can get the number if you like?

Those pictures make me want to come over, crash on the floor beside your hammock, and spend multiple days just wandering around your town and looking at things.

Oooh the pressure! Ha, I'll try to get some done Tala, I've been so lazy with my make-up lately.

Haha, Jaimi. Well, I'm on an airbed now since the hammock isn't so comfortable, but there's room for you to crash x]

I got those off google, I'll try to take a few of my own, there's some seriously cute chocolate-box quaint type views around here.
