Everyone does mermaid-y looks, don't they? I love this look, since it gave me the opportunity to use three of my favourite Beauty From The Earth multipurpose minerals. Particularly mermaid, which you'll see in the swatches, looks like a yellowy gold, but has a greenish hue in the light, so is gorgeous over blues and turquoises.
Mermaid: Step by Step

Don't mind the messy brows!
In other news, a while ago I took out a Marie Claire subscription to get the free gift - an Aveda green tea cleanser set (cleanser and something else, toner or something, I forgot) worth around £65 supposedly. Unfortunately, they apparently ran out of stock, but sent me Prescriptives Super Line Preventor Xtreme instead. It's worth less, but I just ran out of my Lancome Hydra-Zen serum and couldn't afford more, so I'm very happy to have it (I have plenty of cleansers!) and will be reviewing it for you soon.

Don't mind the messy brows!
- Using your mixing medium, apply BftE Mint wet from the inner-corner to the middle of the lid (Brush: MAC 239). Wipe the brush off, then re-apply a little of the same powder dry over it to ensure there are no gaps.
- Using a similar (or the same, if wiped off) brush apply BftE Caribbean wet from the middle of the lid (where mint ends) to the outer V, and slightly above the crease. Apply the dry powder as before over the wet, blending the mint and caribbean slightly and blending out the edges above the crease.
- Using a blending brush (MAC 217, 224 etc) brush BftE Mermaid lightly over the lid, from the inner-corner to the middle of the lid, applying more to the inner-corner and fading it out toward the middle. Blend it out over the crease, and apply a little below the lower lashline from the inner-corner to the middle.
- With a similar brush, shade in the outer-V and crease from the outer-V to the middle using the darkest colour from Nyx's Aquamarine trio. Brush a little under the lower lashline and blend with the Mermaid there.
- Apply MAC Going Bananas to the inner-corners and blend up into the crease using a thin brush.
- Using a fluffy blending brush (MAC 217) apply a little of the black from the Sleek Acid iDivine palette (or any matte black) and tap off the excess. Shade the outer-V, crease and outside edge of the browbone carefully.
- Highlight the browbone using a pale powder and blend out any harsh lines.
- Apply thin black eyeliner and mascara. I used Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On liner in Zero and Estée Lauder Lash Primer Plus, Bourjois Liner Effect mascara and Lancome Virtuose mascara, both in black.
Swatches of the colours used
All done! Pair with pale rose lips or pale peach and similarly shaded blush, whichever suits your colouring more.In other news, a while ago I took out a Marie Claire subscription to get the free gift - an Aveda green tea cleanser set (cleanser and something else, toner or something, I forgot) worth around £65 supposedly. OMG so gorgeous!!!!!!!!
2 July 2009 02:54Thank youuu ^-^ This is a more sophisticated version of a look I've been practicing for ages. Started off as just Going Bananas (inner corner) and wet Caribbean with some shading, then I applied mermaid as well, and now I've worked the mint in and shaded more with the black.
2 July 2009 09:15I also tried a sweet of pale powder blue over the top of the eyeshadow along the inner corner, like a highlight just below the brow bone, and liked it, but did that after I photographed.
wow, this is another stunning look! I love the colors you used and the blending is great too!
2 July 2009 11:28Thanks Gio! I think maybe I used too many, since like you couldn't see the mint at all at the end, but I'll probably get better! I could do more precise stuff if I had a brush like 224, my blending brush is huuuge.
2 July 2009 12:01Ana this is soooo stunning and I love the slightly different shape this gives your eyes. And so jealous of all those lower lashes you've got!
3 July 2009 02:06It's all the Bourjois liner effect on the bottom. I use primer+bourjois+virtuose on the top, but just bourjois on the bottom, no primer or anything, otherwise they go TOO long. I like it 'cause it fans 'em out so they look better against black liner, too.
3 July 2009 02:16My eyes are actually really hooded, so whenever I take eye make-up photos I arch my brows like a Bond villain and look down a bit, haha.
I love the mermaid look- and the blog! (Saw your post on Makeup Geek!) I have to say, I'm so jealous of you right now, I'm dying to get my hands on a Sleek Acid palette! It's not available on Superdrug's site and Sleek's isn't taking orders yet- any other ideas?
3 July 2009 06:55Yup! Two people over there have already asked me to send them Acid palettes if they send me the cash/actual shipping cost via PayPal.
3 July 2009 07:08I guessssssss to keep all the requests together I'll make a blog post about it and then anyone who wants can comment and I won't forget, scatter brain that I am.
I'm happy to ferry any UK only products to people, as long as the cost of the product, actual shipping (what it costs, not an inflated estimate) and any paypal/whatever fees are covered.
I'm soooo loving the mermaid look. I'm going to have to try this one. Absolutely stunning.
