I got my much sought-after MAC Mutiny pigment and Electric Eel eyeshadow, only to be bitterly disappointed. Mutiny was much greyer than I'd anticipated, but I think I'll be able to use it nicely with the right look. Electric Eel, though, is really just a bad dupe for my beloved blue Stargazer loose powder. It's less pigmented and vibrant than I'd anticipated.
Nevertheless, I used it in the following EOTD because, well, I paid for the darned thing, damnit. It's entirely superfluous in the look, really, I could have easily just used all Stargazer instead, but it is in there.
If you're wondering about the EOTD name (some are more ambiguous than others, aren't they?) this look reminded me of Superman, or super heroes, so I named it after the reason why.

In reality it looked closer to this royalish blue. Sorry this is so small/fuzzy,
I was using a new setting on my camera and didn't realise it was using very low resolution.

Looks a bit greener here, for some reason.
Eyes
- No primer or base used, just applied my much-used Stargazer 35 Eye Dust all over the lid wet, using my homemade mixing medium and MAC 239 brush.
- Pat the same powder, dry (wipe the brush) over the top, to get an even, pigmented finish.
- Apply MAC Electric Eel using a crease brush (MAC 217) into the crease, blending upwards over the crease toward the brow-bone.
- Use a matte black eyeshadow (I used the one from Sleek's Safari palette) on a crease brush (I used MAC 217 again, although I thought 224/226 would have been preferable) to darken the outer-V and crease all the way along.
- Using the shimmery white from the Safari palette, highlight over the brow-bone and blend out the blue at the top. Re-apply the Electric Eel with the crease brush as necessary.
- Using a thin brush (used my favourite skinny one from the UD Box of Shadows, but MAC 209 or anything thin will do) run MAC Going Bananas under the lower lashline, or use a yellowy gold liner. Blend this into the inner-corner to highlight.
- Apply black eyeliner to the upper lashline and waterline, and apply mascara.
Lips
- Apply MAC Snob lipstick.
- Apply MAC Delicate Crush lipglass over the top.
I quite like it, but like I said, Electric Eel deserves no credit. My mascara looks a bit rubbish here, my favourite mascara combo has been failing me lately, so one of the components obviously needs replacing with a fresh tube. Trick is working out which.

Stargazer 35 eye dust is gorgeous!
17 July 2009 02:30Where did you get it?
I really love the soft diffused look of your top picture.
I like the look.
How do you get the black in the outer corner/vee crease to look so perfect?
You used a lotta line breaks in there.
17 July 2009 02:35The Stargazer dust came from New Look, a UK clothing store which sells them. I've used it a bunch, the downside is that it stains your skin for a day or so.
Considering how much I like it, I should probably buy more by them, they're only £3.50 each.
I'm not sure how the black is perfect, so I don't know how to answer that exactly. When I apply black to darken a crease/V, I tap the black off so I don't get too much, dab it, then brush it all the way around the crease with my eye open so the lid sort've holds the brush in place in the crease. I tend to stroke from the outside-in (as in, closer to my ear and back in toward the eye) when I shade the outer-V, so I know I won't go too far and get black on my face.
Whenever I blend anything I also often go back, re-apply the main colour (blue), blend again, re-apply the black etc, as needed.
Ok, that makes sense, going from the outside in. The black looks like it's smoked through the blue, which is cool.
17 July 2009 03:08Wow Ana, you've been doing some really intense looks lately. I'm liking them though. I like this blue.
17 July 2009 03:49This is absolutely gorgeous, you are one talented girl!
17 July 2009 08:27You know, I think Illamasqua would be something for you, since color is their thing.
@ T.R. - Thanks :3 Although, I don't think I'm trying to do more intense looks really, I think I'm just better at them now so they actually look more intense.
17 July 2009 15:44@ Mariella - Thank you! I do love my brights, I really hate any look which isn't bright (on me, at least). I keep hearing people being excited about Illamasqua but haven't heard the hype as to why. I checked out their website and liked the look of their stuff as much as I could see it, especially their eyeshadow names.
17 July 2009 15:45Illamasqua offers a lot of unique products, they are colorful, a lot of the eyeshadows and blushes are matte - which is unusual- and the most interesting thing is that the products are multi-purpose (most can be used on eyes, lips, cheeks...) and you can combine them. Like add a shimmery shadow on top of a matte one to change the finish. Oh and the liquid metals from the Siren collection... so unique!
17 July 2009 20:00Ahh, that does sound nice. I did love the website - certainly the best cosmetics website I've seen. I love that they have such a strong brand image that they made a website which works as an immersive customer experience rather than just a store. I assume they're pretty up-and-coming so it's very impressive.
17 July 2009 20:04I definitely want to go take a look in person, I'll have to see who their stockists are.
Ana I was so distracted by the post up at the top of your page that I somehow completely missed this one!
17 July 2009 20:12Lately I've been loving how you line your lower lashline with two different shades, it really makes your eyes pop. I was inspired by you to try this myself last night so used some green shadow topped with Zero and loved the whole effect.
=] Great! I do that sometimes to add a contrasting colour when I get bored of just doing two-tone on my lid. I'd probably use a liquid liner to do the same colour on the upper lid except that black liner looks better on me and I don't own much by way of eyeliner at all, so I utilise my shadows.
17 July 2009 20:16I want to see you doing it toooo! :]
And lmao Jen, that's why I only post 1 EOTD a day, and try to average out one post a day instead of doing lots at once.
Ana so I take it that you don't ascribe to the multiple posts per day school of thought? I tend to blog in spurts so depending on the day and the particular mood I'm in you can get 1 post, 5 posts, or no posts at all =X.
17 July 2009 20:33I'm going to have to post a photo at some point showing what I think of as the Ana-method :). Two-tone liner is fun!
The Green Lantern doesn't!
18 July 2009 03:09wow, this is another gorgeous and intense look! You're so talented!
